Al-Hasan Al-Basri – Allah have mercy on him – said,
When a man sought knowledge, it would not be long before it could be seen in his humbleness, his sight, upon his tongue and his hands, in his prayer, in his speech and in his disinterest (zuhd) in worldly allurements. And a man would acquire a portion of knowledge and put it into practice, and it would be better for him than the world and all it...

The meaning of al athariyyah;
Literally it means footsteps, al athariyyah means the one who follows the footsteps of the prophet sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam (and the sahaaba and the pious predecessors).
Edit: alathariyyah is for a female, and al atharee is for a brother

Al-Hasan Al-Basree – Allah have mercy on him – said:
Faith (iman) is not by embellishment or wishful thinking, but it is what settles in the heart and is verified through your works. Whoever says good but does not do good will have his words compared to his deeds by Allah. Whoever says good and does good will have his words raised by his deeds. This is because Allah ‘azza wa jall said:

It is reported from Al-Hasan Al-Basri – Allah have mercy on him – that he said:
It used to be said: it is part of al-nifaq (hypocrisy) to be inwardly different from what you are on the outside, to say one thing and do another and to be different in how you enter and how you leave. And the root of al-nifaq is lying.

He increases in his foolishness while I increase in my forbearance

O you who persists on mistakes and wrong doings; O you who has turned away from what the most Loving and Compassionate commands; O you who obeys the falsifier of the path and the creator of calamities . How long are you going to insist on your misbehavior? How long are you going to keep yourself distant from your Lord? How long will you seek from this world what you cannot have, and keep away...

“Know, dear son, that days are but hours, and hours are but breaths, and every soul is a container, hence let not any breath pass without any benefit, such as on the Day of Judgement you find an empty container and feel regret! It is narrated that ‘Uthman bin Affan – Allah be pleased with him – said in a sermon:
Son of Adam! Know that the angel of death who has been assigned to you has not ceased to pass you and move on to others, ever since you have been in this world. But it is as if he is about to pass someone else and move on to target you, so be careful and prepare for him (by correcting your deeds). And do not...

“Seek knowledge, because seeking it for the sake of Allah is a worship. And knowing it makes you more God-fearing; and searching for it is jihad, teaching it to those who do not know is charity, reviewing and learning it more is like tasbeeh. Pride: A Barrier to Paradise
By Shaykh ‘Abdur-Rahmaan Ibn Naasir as-Sa’dee
[Taken from Bahjatul-Quloobul-Abraar (pp. 156-158)]
From ‘Abdullaah Ibn Mas’ood radi-Allaahu ‘anhu who related that Allaah’s Messenger sal-Allaahu ‘alayhe wa sallam said:
“Whoever has an atoms worth of kibr (pride) in his heart will not enter Paradise.” So a man said: What about a person who...

Hassan al-Basri (rahimahullaah) advised some of his students admonishing them about avoiding the state of being proud. He said;
“Do not deceive yourself into being too proud because you are in a good or righteous environment, for there is no place that is better than Paradise, and our father, Aadam (alaihis salaam), experienced there what is known to all. Do not become proud merely because you...

It had been made clear to the...

By the Noble Shaykh, Saalih Ibn Fawzaan al-Fawzaan Source: Al-Istiqaamah Magazine Issue No.8 - Shawwal 1418H / February 1998
[Q]: There are some people here, who keep away from (attending) lessons on ’aqeedah (creed/beliefs), and they say: ‘We are Muslims, we are not unbelievers or idol-worshippers such that we have to learn ’aqeedah or attend lectures about it.’ So, O noble Shaykh, what is...

بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِِ
It blows my mind away how I’ve seen a lot of Muslims constantly calling out other Muslims for their faults, flaws, sect they are part of, things they post, damning them to hell, etc on Tumblr.

Goodness is not in your wealth and offspring being plentiful; true goodness is when your [good] deeds are plenty and you have great understanding and forbearance, and when you compete to worship your Lord.
